Bauhaus-Archiv / An Immersive Café Experience

As a part of our study abroad program, we created a concept cafe for the Bauhaus-Archiv, home to Berlin, Germany. While studying the influential art school, we discovered that Bauhaus is more than what meets the eye. That is what motivated us to develop an immersive experience to widen people's understanding of it.

Driven by curiosity

The point of the Bauhaus was to bring together commonality in all art forms, encapsulating the foundation that form follows function, to transcend beyond the aesthetics to see the intrinsic nature and essence of Bauhaus.

zeit·geist (def):

the German word for prevalent spirit or essence of a particular time or era

The Challenge

To transcend beyond the aesthetic of the world to see the intrinsic nature
of the essence of Bauhaus.

The Concept

To capture the essence of creating by using deconstructed forms and inviting people into an immersive experience to revive the original purpose of the Bauhaus while finding out how the soul resonates and experiences the ineffable.

Target Audience

Students and residents of the new heterogeneous urban environment.

Aim

To promote the grand opening of the new Bauhaus Archiv by reigniting
the original Bauhaus spirit.

Coffee Table Book & Collector’s Cards

The coffee table book is a comprehensive look into the life of those who started the Bauhaus.
Each illustrated card depicts a person from their respective department within the school, whether it's the founder himself, Walter Gropius, or Wassily Kandinsky and his contribution to color theory and painting. By combining interactive elements that scan to learn more, the audience is able to grasp what it was like to be apart of the Bauhaus community.

"The culminating point of the Bauhaus teaching is a demand for a new and powerful working correlation of all the processes of creation"

— Walter Gropius (Founder of Bauhaus)

Concept Cafe

The Grand Opening!

Bauhaus is known for its simplicity in using geometric forms and the primary colors, therefore any furniture present in these spaces were carefully chosen. The immersive entryway allows people to experience Bauhaus in a tangible environment.
